About ARASIA :
The creation
of this Agreement
"Co-operative Agreement for Arab States in Asia for Research, Development and
Training Related to Nuclear Science and Technology", which shall be identified by the
acronym "ARASIA", was based on the need to develop
a cooperative framework that brings together the Arab States in Asia, which
share the same developmental problems, for the purpose of consolidating and
integrating their efforts in research, development, and training, and
encouraging and strengthening technical co-operation activities among them.
This
Agreement took the example of other Regional Cooperative Agreements sponsored by
the International Atomic Energy Agency, such as
AFRA,
ARCAL and
RCA, but maintained the privacy that
distinguishes the concerned region.
The
IAEA Board of Governors adopted the
Agreement on 12.06.2002 (GOV/INF/2002/10), and the Agreement entered into
force on 29.07.2002 (INFCIRC/613/Add.1). It is extended for additional
period of six years effective
29 July 2008.
